The ADA-accessible Switchback Ramp will connect Pittsburgh’s downtown area to its new front doorstep, the Mon Wharf Landing park and trail.
Currently, there is no continuous trail link from the Eliza Furnace Trail and Smithfield Street Bridge to the Mon Wharf Landing.
When completed, the Mon Wharf Switchback will provide a vital link in completing the City of Pittsburgh’s portion of the Great Allegheny Passage, which receives more than 500,000 visits annually and is projected to serve as many as 2.5 million people when complete.
The Mon Wharf Switchback will provide a leisurely transition from bridge elevation to shore, allowing users to savor the dramatic terrain that defines Pittsburgh. The Switchback will provide a grand entry ramp, friendly for hiking, biking, or rollerblading, and will eventually connect Point State Park to the Great Allegheny Passage.
