Isabella Street and Allegheny Landing on Pittsburgh’s North Shore will be transformed into a bustling hub of artistic expression. Witness the magic as 25 professional chalk artists from over 12 states visit Pittsburgh to adorn the streets with breathtaking murals, turning the pavement into a canvas of boundless imagination. 

Now in it’s third year, this year’s festival launches Riverlife’s 25th year of reclaiming Pittsburgh’s rivers. A percentage of food and beverage sales from the festival benefits Riverlife’s work to create, activate, and celebrate Pittsburgh’s riverfronts.

Jaycie Greenawalt, of Irwin, PA, has learned her chalking skills at the hand of her father, Erik, aka The Chalking Dad. When she was 3, Jaycie inspired The Chalking Dad by asking for “The Little Einsteins” to be drawn in her driveway. As she has gotten older, she has partnered with him on many projects and has begun creating her own masterpieces. Jaycie will be a senior this fall at Slippery Rock University, where she is majoring in dance and accounting.

Carrie Dziabczenko is a professional artist living in Fort Worth, TX. She had the incredible opportunity of being immersed in an artistic environment for her entire life with a family full of artists. After winning various awards in art throughout childhood, she graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor of Arts in English/Technical Writing and a minor in Psychology.

Carrie has been featured in The West 7th Street Chalk Art Festival in Fort Worth since 2015, Colorpalooza, Chalk This Way in Lewisville Texas since 2016, and at the Kerrville Texas Chalk Art Festival since 2018. She has also been a featured chalk artist at the Ute Stampede Rodeo in Nephi, UT, Plazapalooza in Sundance Square in Fort Worth, TX, Taste of Dallas in Dallas, TX, and Le Strada dei Pastelli in Beaverton, OR. Carrie also has participated in well-known festivals such as Chalktoberfest in Marietta, GA, Arbor Lakes Chalk Fest in Maple Grove, MI, Via Colori in Houston, TX, and Chalk the Walk in Clearwater Beach, FL.

After discovering her love for sidewalk art in Seventh grade Cecilia Martyna, known on social media as CC the Sketchy Artist, has performed at hundreds of live art events. In addition to art events, Cecilia has also developed youth programs with local libraries to teach young artists how to create sidewalk art. She prioritizes making people smile with her art and loves to answer questions about the unique medium. In the colder, not as chalk-friendly months, Cecilia is an undergraduate student studying biochemistry and is currently working on research of natural indigo pigments.

Lori Hughes, from Columbus, OH. 2003 YSU grad. I’ve been creating street art since roughly 2005. At first, it was just one or two events a year. Now I participate in about 6-8 events a year. My style is more pop culture, Disney, and fun. I love to use neon colors in everything. I tend to choose pieces based on my 6-year-old son’s interests. Which is currently Star Wars. When I am not chalking, I’m painting shoes, purses, and jean jackets.

Tiffany Kelly is a native Steel City girl and a 1996 graduate of West Allegheny High School. She moved to Dayton, OH, in 2000 where she currently resides with her husband and three children. After taking many years off from art, Tiffany stumbled into sidewalk chalk art while her children played outside. What started as a way to play with her kids soon grew into an exciting adventure of art and travel! Since starting her journey in 2012, Tiffany has traveled to various cities in Ohio and has gone as far as Clearwater, FL. Some of her biggest clients have been the Dayton Dragons Professional Baseball Team and the City of Kettering. Her style tends to stay on the whimsical style, bringing beloved cartoon characters to life on the pavement. When she’s not chalking, Tiffany enjoys crocheting and spending time with her family. She is thrilled to be back in Pittsburgh, and thanks Riverlife for hosting this exciting event.

Nicole has been chalking since she was 12 years old. It has always been her passion to create murals on the sidewalk! She has been featured at chalk festivals around America, including EPCOT’s Festival of the Arts, Chalktoberfest in Georgia, Lake Worth Beach Street Painting Festival, and many local festivals in Utah as well. Nicole is a recent graduate from Brigham Young University in animation. Her ambition is to spread joy through the arts!

BK Lyons, a.k.a. Chalk Dirty, is best known as a street painter, muralist, and fine artist. Based in the Greater Tampa Area, Lyons began drawing before she could walk, according to her mother. Known for her use of bold, high-key colors, she has gained a reputation for her ability to adapt to any genre or brief. From master reproductions to urban graffiti, Lyons enjoys creating fun and playful images all while putting her own unique spin on the process. Over the course of her career, Lyons has garnered a deep appreciation for a diverse range of genres and techniques, which span the spectrum of artistic practice from Caravaggio’s use of light to Keith Haring’s simplicity. It is this broad familiarity with various methods and approaches to her work that allows Lyons to continue to push her limits in merging classical style with a new technique.

Patrick McDonough

Exhibiting artistic talent at an early age, Patrick was accepted into Tam O’Shanter School of Art in the 3rd grade, later taking additional art classes in high school. Patrick joined the Military, serving in Vietnam. During his enlistment, he did artwork for many to send home to their sweethearts. Upon discharge, he was offered courses at CCAC. After meeting Coleman Joyce, founder of Joyce Signs, Patrick put his sights on billboard painting. He’s continued his apprenticeship with him while he encouraged him to keep after his personal goal. Many years later Patrick was hired to create billboards for All-State where he got 18 years of experience doing pictorials on a large scale. Working anywhere from 20’ to 200’ up in the air in the tristate area. He loved it, even in the winter! Since then he has been doing portraits and various artwork for many including signs, always. Patrick started doing chalk art drawings about 3 years ago and has gone to several festivals in Pennsylvania and Florida. Never forgetting where he came from and all the help he had along the way!

Born and raised in the Steel City, Allina has always had a passion for art. However, it wasn’t until Allina attended a chalk festival in Columbus 5 years ago that she discovered a love for this unique medium. Since then, Allina has chalked her mark in several events including the Cleveland Museum of Art Chalk Festival as a featured artist and the Ohio State Fair where she received the commissioners choice award. Aislynn Mullen has had a love for all things artistic for as long as she can remember. Originally from South Florida, she grew up in an eclectic area where she participated in the annual Lake Worth Chalk Festival with her dad since childhood. Today, she is a graduate of the University of Florida in environmental science and is currently in the process of obtaining a second bachelor’s, but her passion for art continues to grow. She has participated in festivals throughout the country and continues to collaborate with her dad often. Her primary focuses include pop culture figures and vibrant color portraits. Ken Mullen is an award-winning chalk artist, street painter, and muralist from West Palm Beach, FL, USA. He has been creating chalk/street art for over three decades and is professionally certified as a “Maestro” level chalk artist by Chalk Art Nation (formerly Florida Chalk Artists Association). A founding partner of the 3D chalking duo, Chalk Guys, these days Ken mostly works as a solo artist under the name Mellow Monkey Art. His large anamorphic 3D designs often incorporate a whimsical or pop culture motif, and he loves the crowd reaction when the skewed lines and shapes on the ground transform into a 3D image before their eyes. When he’s not creating 3D artwork, Ken also loves to do chalk portraits, enjoying the challenge of capturing recognizable details on often difficult surfaces. Ken enjoys the performative nature of street painting, and he loves to take his art on the road. He has chalked at events throughout the United States. He also has passed on his love of chalking to both of his daughters, so perhaps you will find him chalking alongside them one day at an event near you.

Although she’s only been street painting for 17 years (10 of those she’s been doing across the country), Jennifer Ripassa, from Eastvale, CA has been creating art since she could hold a crayon. She’s a versatile artist, skilled in a variety of mediums including charcoal, pastels, pencils, oils, and acrylics. She is regularly commissioned to create custom paintings and portraiture, logos, murals in homes and businesses, and even tattoos. She went to Cal State Fullerton for Graphic Design and Animation but realized getting her hands “dirty” in paint and chalk was more her style than sitting at a computer, although she still does dabble a bit. Jennifer creates with the desire to inspire and evoke deep emotion. “I am intrigued by the unknown and I live to love and inspire happiness. If I could paint a smile on everyone’s face, I would.”

Kumpa Tawornprom, a talented artist and sculptor, has left an indelible mark on the Tampa Bay area with his larger-than-life creations. Originally from Thailand, Kumpa’s journey is as fascinating as his art. Born in the province of Korat in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, Kumpa’s life took unexpected turns. Kumpa moved to the Tampa Bay area in 1990. Kumpa’s studio in Safety Harbor is where he crafts statues made from Styrofoam and other materials. His work adorns various locations, including a giant pink elephant that welcomed crowds to Safety Harbor’s 2015 Songfest, a 30-foot Iguana for the Green Iguana, plus three others of varying sizes, including a 15-foot Grouper for Frenchy’s Restaurant. Stroll around downtown Safety Harbor, and you’ll encounter Kumpa’s art everywhere. Kumpa is currently working at Warner Brother, Disney Theme Park, as well as Nickelodeon and Universal Studios Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay. With over 10 years of sidewalk chalk experience. Kumpa’s passion, technical skill, and vibrant imagination continue to  enrich the local community.
